Neil has a learning disability and joined a fostering scheme with his local Council four years ago. When he first entered the scheme he needed around the clock care from his supporter John.
Neil’s psychologist requested that he use Brain in Hand to help build his confidence and increase his independence.
One of Neil’s first goals using Brain in Hand was to travel independently.
It was a challenging goal for Neil, but he has achieved it. Neil is now able to travel a four mile journey to local shops and then to his father’s house once a week. He is able to manage this journey, including a bus change by referring to the problems and solutions he’s entered onto his Brain in Hand.
Previously this would only have been possible if accompanied by John.
This ability to travel alone has saved the local authority thousands each year.
