Brain in Hand’s annual Minecraft marathon is returning to mark World Autism Awareness Day and raise money for the brilliant charity Positively Autistic, who educates and creates positive autism awareness, including running online radio shows and weekly Autism Movement Therapy sessions.
From 13.00 BST on Tuesday 3rd April until 13.00 on Wednesday 4th April, the Brain in Hand team will be hosting a Minecraft marathon as part of World Autism Awareness Day. We’ll be opening our virtual world up to everyone, and you can join in for as much or as little of the 24 hours as you like.
Joining the event is free. You will need to own a copy of Minecraft (the Java Edition, which is the one you can purchase from minecraft.net).
To sign up, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or join our forum over at braininhandminecraft.proboards.com where you can chat with other attendees and get updates about the event.
For this event, we’re asking teams to select a plot of land, then take on the challenge of building the most awesome structures possible. This year’s theme is castles, so credit will be given for towering walls, treacherous moats and majestic throne rooms; each team’s plot will be given enough resources to get started, and players can roam the world to find more materials if needed. You can join the event whether you’d like to play solo, with a group of your friends, or join one of the teams captained by a Brain in Hand employee.
To make things a bit more interesting, there will be some objectives for teams to complete: you’ll get credit for incorporating features from a list of classic castle components, and our special guest judges will award extra points for outstanding creativity and general awesomeness. If you don’t want to enter the judging, and just want to build something fantastic of your own, then that’s encouraged too.
Throughout the event, we’ll be collecting donations via our GoFundMe page for our chosen charity, and we’ll also be shaking buckets around our offices to raise some more money. The team who wins the castle building competition will have the honour of choosing which of our other shortlisted charities should receive the bucket donations!
You don’t need to make a donation to join in – just let us know you’re interested and we’ll sign you up! For more details of how to join in, check out http://bit.ly/BrainInHandMinecraft; we’ll keep this page up-to-date with rules and FAQs.
